In 2014 sales of gluten-free products were said to have reached a staggering £184m for the year, an increase of 15% on 2013. One report has suggested that the annual rate of sales growth now is in fact close to 30%. Incredibly one in ten new food products launched in 2014 was gluten-free; nearly double what it was only two years before that in 2012. Interestingly, a Mintel report has stated that increasing numbers of the general public are buying gluten-free products because “they believe them to be healthier”.
